OLIVEIRA DE AZEMÉIS URBAN PARK – AD QUADRATUM PROJECT

In the virtual interview with Azeméis FM / TV, the architect José António Lopes from our  studio Ad quadratum arquitectos, spoke about the design of the Urban Park of Oliveira de Azeméis.

This project will allow the city center to have a new life through the requalification of Quinta dos Borges. This initiative aims to transform this space into an environmental interpretation center which will have a pedagogical farm, children’s playground, circuits and sports equipment, an open-air amphitheater, and dining and leisure areas.

José António Lopes says that the project was developed in the context of a public scope and designed in view of the specific characteristics of the space itself and its surroundings.

When asked about the inspiration for carrying out the project, the architect says that the main reason for inspiration is Quinta dos Borges itself, highlighting the existing built heritage such as the main house of the Quinta and the environmental heritage. He also highlights the care that was taken with the watercourse and protected trees, such as the Cork Oaks. Also considers that changing the agricultural / residential function of buildings to a function for public use implied respect for the existing heritage.

The architect also mentions that this initiative is an inclusive project in different areas, highlighting the issue of different age groups within the scope of the enjoyment of this space.
