PINTOR MINES COMPLEX AND INTERPRETATIVE CENTER
OLIVEIRA DE AZEMÉIS, 2025
A new hub of municipal centrality, with great potential for visibility and attractiveness, positioning Oliveira de Azeméis on the European route for visiting and studying Industrial Heritage and Cultural Tourism.
A privileged location due to its topography and landscape, it constitutes an important landmark in the historiography of national industrial archaeology, with particular relevance in the extractive sector, where it once held a leading position at the European level.
There is now an urgent need to return this enormous historical/architectural heritage to public use, rescuing the site and the built complex from ruin, qualifying them according to principles of heritage respect, (multi)functionality, attractiveness, and dynamic innovation, while never neglecting the conditions of sustainability, accessibility, inclusion, and the circular economy.
This proposal provides the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis with a modern and versatile complex that honors history and heritage, educates on the appreciation of the natural environment and climate change, and, above all, honors the many men and women who worked here and still identify with this place.
