BUILDING AT PASSEIO DAS VIRTUDES

OPORTO, 2009

Rehabilitation of a building situated in the centre of the city of Oporto, in a two-fronted plot. The project required great programmatic flexibility, to ensure the best conditions for the construction of housing units, offices or studios, while guaranteeing great comfort and good infrastructures. The intervention also proposes the pre-installation of a commercial space (restaurants) on the ground floor, facing the Passeio das Virtudes, as well as a space for more generic use, distributed throughout two floors, accessible from Rua Dr. Barbosa de Castro. The lot’s specific configuration, its topographical presentation and existing volumetry, contributed to the design’s singularity and interest, presenting itself both as a strategy for the reoccupation of the traditional city and for the heritage’s valuation.
