CONVENTO DO BEATO (BEATO CONVENT)

LISBON, 2004

General intervention and partial rehabilitation in the aftermath of a fire. The spaces were subjected to a general requalification, particularly the most affected areas, including the patio’s front wing, an old inn. This set of buildings was mostly built in the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries, having a private occupation and industrial use (after 1834) inevitably tarnished the authenticity and integrity of this monastic architectural heritage. Its use as an events room, for public acts and exhibitions, allows a “smoother” use of the areas, ensuring conditions of sustainability, preservation and heritage valuation. The multidisciplinary intervention provided the opportunity to carry out surveys and discover more and varied architectural elements, relevant to the history and understanding of this set of buildings. The coordination and architectural project also integrated, with great sobriety and discretion, the contributions of several experts.
